Disposable underpads are a type of absorbent pad designed to provide a protective barrier between a person and a surface, such as a bed, chair or couch. They are commonly used in healthcare facilities, hospices, and for home-care patients.

 

These underpads are made up of multiple layers of absorbent material, which includes cellulose fibers and super absorbent polymer or SAP. The uppermost layer comprises a soft, non-woven material, which is comfortable to the skin. The layers together provide maximum absorbency and wick the moisture away from the skin.

 

Depending on the needs of the user, disposable underpads are available in different sizes, styles, and absorbencies. There are underpads for general incontinence, postpartum use, and those intended for overnight use. The underpads can be found in rectangular size, sometimes having an adhesive back to prevent them from slipping.
